Behind the Seams of Warner Bros Harry Potter Costumes

Discover first-hand the secrets of the Harry Potter costume department that created over 25,000 unique items of clothing for the legendary franchise.

The Making of Harry Potter – Behind the Seams will showcase the whole design process so you can see how new Harry Potter costumes were made to look centuries old or battle-torn with the help of paint, mud and wire brushes, how magical snail trails were created on your favourite Herbology Professor’s robes and why Aunt Marge needed 38 costumes for just one scene.

Battle-torn Robes

“Presented in a workshop environment, famous Harry Potter costumes on display will include Herbology Professor Sprout, Triwizard champion Cedric Diggory and even the flowing robes of Lord Voldemort distressed from the Battle of Hogwarts,” said the studio tour. “Choose your house colours and wear an original Hogwarts robe which appeared on screen in the Harry Potter film series. Creating the costumes was a true labour of love, deploying all kinds of hands-on methods. This brand-new experience will display the battle-torn robes of Lord Voldemort, distressed for the Battle of Hogwarts with the help of paint, mud and wire brushes, and explain how magical snail trails were created for Professor Sprout’s robes – as well as why Aunt Marge needed 38 costumes for just one scene!”

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter takes visitors behind the scenes of Harry Potter and lets them step into the original Great Hall, first built for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, experience green screen technology and marvel at the breathtaking miniature scale model of Hogwarts castle.

Step Inside

The attraction allows visitors the chance to see firsthand the sheer scale and detail of the actual sets, costumes, animatronics, special effects and props that have been used in all eight of the Harry Potter films. In addition to the Great Hall, some of the most iconic sets featured in the attraction include Dumbledore’s office, Diagon Alley, the Ministry of Magic, number four, Privet Drive, Gryffindor common room and the Forbidden Forest.

Sarah Roots, Vice President of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, commented: “What makes the Tour so special is that everything on show has been used in the making of the Harry Potter film series. All the sets, props and costumes are authentic and show the incredible detail and craftsmanship that goes into film production. All the films were shot at Leavesden so it’s wonderful to have given the sets a permanent home here.”
