The Costume Rag is an innovative new platform designed to bring together the vast worldwide costume community. The internet and social media has allowed the exchange of ideas, methods and friendship between fans of every style of costume to have been developed since the loincloth.
Here costumiers, collectors, reenactors and others who share an interest in costume can engage with in-depth stories and lighter content designed to inform and inspire.
Who Are We?
The Costume Rag was started when a costume-loving couple joined forces with his experience as a professional journalist and her expertise in period clothing and fashion. @VickHellfire writes on politics, the NHS, style and London life for Felix Magazine and @FridaBuurman studies historical costume and works for a high-end menswear brand.
We want to build this platform from the ground up – by costume fanatics for costume fanatics. Our following is small but we will grow it. Many startups and bloggers at this point use bots, paid likes and cheats to get off the ground but we want our website to be like a fine handmade garment, each seam sewed with care and attention. You can help us with this by sharing our content, tagging us on Instagram with your latest project and writing for us about what you love.
We are mainly historically-focussed but we also love Goth, and we’ll welcome Steampunks and cosplayers too.
Sometimes we may feature more than what you want and while we will always credit where it is due let us know if you want something taken down. We hope you can grow with us as we stitch together the worldwide love of period styles.

The Costume Rag produces a high output of quality content from editorial staff and guest authors. However, we also syndicate stories from talented bloggers so they can focus on great costume projects and leave the digital marketing to us. If you want to be considered for this process then get in touch via the above address.
